Clearly they're related to Facebook and Twitter...

all part of the Time Waster Dynasty.

The fabulous thing about Polyvore is you can let your creativity run wild, though it is disappointing when you always choose the perfect items that are way out of your budget.

I would love it if Polyvore had a chic sister that scores fabulous knock-offs at a fraction of the cost.

Hmm....maybe I'm onto something.

Creating a bar area is the perfect excuse to

have a new focal point for any room and

comes in super handy for entertaining.

I'm getting ready to have a group of gals over

for a cocktail party and needed some inspiration

for a practical yet pretty bar area.

Though I prefer to use my own term of 'liquor vignette'.

Creating a go-to area is ideal for parties allows

your quests to be their own bartender which frees

up the hostess for entertaining her guests.

Some fun tips for your 'liquor vignette'-

* choose any spot including a bookshelf, sideboard or bar cart

* mix and match your stemware for variety and interest

* consider vintage decanters

* add flowers or candles to warm the space and draw your guests

* create a special cocktail and provide simple instructions and all the ingredients

(don't forget to add a drink garnish. I like using a cinnamon stick for fall drinks)

So I've been a little MIA with the ol' blog. We've been busy. Busy and crazy. Busy because we have kiddos with lots of activities, my business and life in general, and crazy because we're on the verge of adding on to our home and revamping the whole exterior. I'm tempted to share the 'before' photos but I'm thinking I'll wait until I am sure the 'after' is going to look the way I see it in my mind. Did I mention we're doing all the work ourselves? I'm blessed to have a hunky handyman husband but this also means I have to be nice when the project gets behind schedule. In the meantime, I'll take care of the pretty...he'll take care of the heavy lifting.

This is where Pinterest comes in. I'm sure you've heard of it. It's the most addicting site ever created. It has been the primary tool to help me see what I'd like our home to look like when we're done with this massive project. I always believe the journey is half the fun and dreaming about what we want the end result to look like is so exciting. Of course....let's see what our budget allows!

I feel an overwhelming urge to tidy up and organize everything this time of year. It's a combination of the kids going back to school and knowing the season of being stuck inside is upon us.

Six years ago today I lost someone
whom I admired, loved and adored.

If you met my Dad you might not immediately see him as a giver.
He had an 'I don't care what anyone thinks about me' sort of air.
My Dad gave and gave and then gave some more.
He was a quiet giver, the best kind of giver.
I stood in awe at his wake listening to story after story
of what he did for others.
Most of the stories I had never heard before.

I would give anything for my Dad to see me now but sometimes I wonder if where I am today has to do with the fact that he's not here with us. On some level, I mark the time I could have left on earth based on his timeline. I know life doesn't work this way but losing him at 55 means I too could die at 55. I'm aware that I could die tomorrow or I could die at 105, but this unplanned event in my life has given me an awareness of time that I hadn't had before. After his loss, I made huge changes in my life. I decided I wanted to do the things in life that I was too afraid to do before.

My Dad wasn't perfect, but he had a passion and enthusiasm that, at times, I didn't understand. My Dad used to get very angry with me for not applying myself....for not pushing myself hard enough....for not seeing what I'm capable of accomplishing. At the heart of this, I think he believed in me more than I believed in myself.

I know that my life is right where it's supposed to be, including losing my Dad. He has become part of my story.
I've always believed that God has a plan and if He shared it with us, it would take the mystery out of life. As a planner, I tend to have a hard time with the whole 'wingin' it' concept. But now I know that today could be the day when you get the news.
The phone rings and you find out that the seizure was because of lesions on your father's brain.
Then you find out that all the fly-fishing, running and love of the outdoors resulted in melanoma even though he never had a trace of skin cancer on his skin.
Three months later you get another call.
He's gone.
This certainly was not part of my plan.

I know he'd be proud of what we've all done without him here with us.
He'd be proud of the love of his life, his Rosie. Rose has a zest for life, an upbeat positive attitude and never once does she come across like she's been cheated.
She's always let it be known she got 30 years with him and she's blessed by that.

He'd be proud that without him here,
I see in myself what I know he saw in me all those years ago.

Thank you Dad for the gift you've given all of us.

I have a story and I know you do too. Our story makes us who we are. Our story encompasses our weaknesses, our strengths, our attitudes and our choices. Posting pretty pictures deflects my story. What do you do to deflect your story?

Think about choices you make and things that you do only to offer glimpses, tiny cracks with light shining through, of a different place. A place where everything is as it should be. We strive for that place. We dream about that place. We buy things hoping it will bring us a little closer to that place. That place will never happen. It's not supposed to. Besides, if we had everything the way we think we want it.....we'd probably only want it different.

I feel like I have more control over my life

I enjoy using this blog as a means to promote other handmade shops and feature fun pretty things. The reality is, in the big picture, this is all fluff. The magnitude of Japan's earthquake and tsunami is heartbreaking, overwhelming and unimaginable. For those of us that have never experienced a natural disaster like this, I think it's easy to feel completely helpless. I feel like all I can do is give, pray and try to use this as a reminder to myself and my children that things like cute clothes and home decor are so totally irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

We've all seen the heartbreaking images of the devastation in Japan. A little contribution can go a long way. Consider giving to Operation Blessing International. I love this halter day dress from Halston Heritage. It's so flattering with a hint of 70's glam. It's sold out everywhere I looked but I did find it here with a few colors and sizes available.

STRIPES

I've had a thing for stripes dating back to my days of begging to take tap lessons only for the shoes. I suppose horizontal stripes aren't flattering but I don't let that stop me. In my opinion, this Ann Taylor tee is a wardrobe essential.

I'm not a fan of tucking it in as pictured but would wear it with some great flared nautically inspired jeans. Which brings us to our next trend.

DENIM

Delish! Denim done right. These Lucky Brand pants are so flattering. It's images like this that are causing women everywhere to flock to their plastic surgeons for the Brazilian Butt Lift. Doing tons of lunges seems like a less painful approach but who am I to judge?

FLORALS

Of course every spring we see florals but this season floral is bright and fun. Get two trends in one with a floral scarf. Summer scarves will still be hot (literally) this season. I love the color combination of the Scarlet Floral scarf from Hyde Society.

This one is my favorite but it's going to hurt a little at $118!!

I'm not too sure about this trend. I think it's because it sends me back to memories of early 90's Z. Cavaricci jeans topped with a sheer button up blouse (what was I thinking??) and I'm pretty sure I wore a tank under that disaster called an outfit. IF i just wore a black bra I apologize to anyone that had to suffer through that. I was just trying to look like Madonna before Madonna had a few kids and hit the gym too hard.

I love this sheer inspired suit featured in Wolford's 2011 look book.

Sexy but safe. This would be one of my 'in the pool with the kids' suits. I also have plenty of the 'I have to be very still or I could end up with a wardrobe malfunction' suits. Those are way more fun but DANGEROUS!

Valentine's Day is almost here.....I am so excited being that it is my favorite day of the year! Maybe it's the romantic in me but paying tribute to all things love makes my heart feel extra fuzzy on this day. V-Day is mostly for women but there are little things we can do for our men, any day of the year, to keep the spark alive!

Here's my top ten list-

1. Surprise him in the morning with a sweet note on the mirror using a dry erase marker.

2. Put the kids to bed a serve up something sweet on the Love and Lust plates.....that should get his attention!!

3. Have a beer or cocktail opened up for him before he even walks in the door.

4. Send him a text that'll get his heart racing!

5. Maybe it's old fashioned but talk about something upbeat when you see him after a long day. I know it's tempting to give him the ol' "my day was horrible, how about yours?" line but telling him that won't change your day.

6. Encourage him to golf/play poker with the guys/ride his dirt bike or motorcycle........whatever it is he enjoys doing WITHOUT YOU. :)

7. Surprise him with a gift certificate for a massage. He deserves it too!

8. Put a little love note in the cereal box for him to discover in the morning. Cheesy? Perhaps. But I think they like a little cheesiness every once in a while.

9. Initiate the lovin'. Yep, I said it. He likes it when you take charge sometimes.

10. If you have children keep them out of the bedroom!!!!! This means photos too. Staring at a picture of your baby/child/children will not make you feel sexy....you'll feel like a mom. This also means having a strict "knock before entering" rule.

Tiffany & Co. has launched a fabulous collection of handbags, ranging from totes to satchels to clutches. Maybe this is old news to some of you but I was delightfully surprised when I received my newest Tiffany catalog.

Every piece flaunts the signature robin's egg Tiffany blue whether it's on the clasp or the lining.

My favorite has to be the Galaxy Clutch. I'll just have to admire it from afar though at a whopping $1,295!

A more realistic option is the reversible suede tote. At $595 it still isn't going to happen. I usually end up with added details on my purse like banana smears and grubby handprints. I'll buy the expensive handbag when I can buy a white slipcovered sofa. This will be in 2028 +/- a couple years.

If you want a little bag to scream Tiffany (a little too loudly in my opinion) the bracelet bag is your gal. She's $795 and is Tiffany through and through.

I stumbled into Live.Flourish one day and didn't want to leave! My absolute favorite is this little clutch. Her name is Miss Peony and I want to be friends so we can go everywhere together. For starters, I am digging this Iced Hobo bag. Listen to the description- "A purse as pretty as a pastry, sparkling with swirls of crystalline glaze, irresistible with delight." Wow! They used all the buzz words- pastry, glaze and delight.

I must admit, I look forward to winter in large part because I have a boot fetish. I will add these Trail Booties to my wish list.

I believe these might be the mother of all boots! The Maple Wood Boots again by Anthropologie. Boot perfection at it's best.

While watching Lady Gaga perform on the Today Show this morning, I was reminded of my post-pregnancy belly bands. I'm not sure who decided Lady Gaga's dancers needed belly band support being that I don't think any of them just gave birth....but alas, they look freaky which is just what she was after.

Ok..back to the bands. I swear by these after giving birth! I wore one for about a month after all three of my pregnancies and I think it helped me get my tummy flat post-baby. I can't say my belly skin is young and taut like it used to be (TMI?) ...but I'll take flat.

More than anything, I think the band is a reminder to suck it in and start working those 'core' muscles again. There are belly bands in every price range but I think the ugly no frills Motherhood style (shown wrapped around male dancer's tummy and what appears to be cut and wrapped around female dancer's neck in a criss-cross fashion) is the best bang for your buck.

Maybe the $65 laced covered Kourtney Kardashian endorsed Belly Bandit works better but I found the $25 version did the trick. And remember...the tighter you wrap it the better. It's not comfortable but neither are stilettos and those make your gams look gorgeous, right?

Serena & Lily is one of my favorite resources for combining colors and creating a tranquil bedroom vibe. Though I cannot justify spending oodles on bedding that will encounter middle of the night nosebleeds, I do suggest using white duvets (hooray for bleach) and adding color in pillows and accessories.

Party Cones...Party Cones...

Party cones are one of my new favorite things. We had a small birthday party for Eliana and in an effort to keep it simple, these cones were the only decor...plus a small 'happy birthday' banner. The girls were welcomed to the party with a cone hanging on the gate filled with goodies. We hung cones from the trees and sprinkled punched confetti on the tables.

My good friend Lisa Marie (Happy Birthday Chica!) at Orange & Blossom is the creator of these fabulous cones. She has both an Etsy shop and a wedding website. She's super friendly to work with and can create cones for any occasion...birthdays, weddings, baby or bridal showers...the options are endless.

Eliana had so much fun picking out what should go in the cones and filling them with me. We started off by adding a bow to Twizzlers and continued with enough sugar to wire those girls out for days!! She only had 4 friends at her party but we had a couple extras for some added fun.

Mother's Day Obnoxiousness

So bear with me as I brag about my Mother's Day. Out of the 9 Mother's Days I've experienced this was the best to date (no pressure to the hubby for next year or anything). We started the day out in the same lazy fashion as we have in the past with Rocky Mountain Eggs benedict (smoked trout...home-made hollandaise sauce...you get the idea) and champagne on the patio but it didn't stop there. (This is where I start to get really obnoxious..at least I warned you) After being showered with flowers, the most fabulous smelling perfume and lotions, I spent the entire day basking in the sun reading a book slathered in my new scents. Which, by the way, just happens to be an amazing combination. I wish I could've gotten a peak at my husband and son smelling all the perfumes at Victoria's Secret...apparently they took this task very seriously.

Not only was I interrupted as I started to change a stinky diaper with "no..no...it's Mother's Day..let me get that" (which is music to every mom's ears) I heard over and over again "I love you so much mommy" and "You're the best mommy ever" by my sweet daughter. My son isn't the mushy type but he did chill next to me with a book which makes him just as adorable.

Back to the book-

I am a huge fan of Elizabeth Gilbert's 'Eat Pray Love' best-seller and was excited to get my hands on her latest book 'Committed'. For the most part, I agree whole heartedly with the message she conveys in this book. She celebrates love with caution and realistic expectations. She dives past the fog and illusion of romance examining the history of marriage and the wide range of cultural differences regarding marriage. I hope my daughter is open-minded enough one day to read this book. I think it's a must read for all who are married, plan to be married or one day dream of being married.

The aspect of the book I didn't care for is her obvious need to convince the reader (and more so herself) that HER upcoming marriage will not end up being a statistic. I believe any time you work very hard to convince others you're not making a mistake, it might mean your gut is telling you it IS a mistake. Just a thought....

Pamper yourself and save money with chemical free beauty treatments you can mix up in your own kitchen. My absolute favorite quick beauty fix is the perfect remedy for dull skin in the winter. A few times a week I mix up a paste of cornmeal and honey. Because I have dry skin I add a few drops of vitamin E and lightly scrub my face. My face glows with this concoction and I swear it works better than all the expensive treatments available. The downside is I usually forget to remove the ramekin from the shower which I suspect annoys my hubby.

Speaking of honey, my favorite honey is infused with lavender and comes from Los Poblanos. My step-mom lovingly volunteers her time at this all organic farm in Albuquerque which cultivates over 75 varieties of fruits and vegetables without the use of any synthetic fertilizers or chemicals. Unfortunately they don’t sell their lavender gifts online so you’ll have to check out the farm and b & b in person. The grounds are truly breathtaking!

I'm one of those crazies that labor without an epidural or any other drugs. I was induced with my first two and managed to keep my cool long enough to deliver naturally and I'm hoping to do the same this time.....minus the induction. Now I'm on the quest for anything that will help manage my pain and ease my anxiety.

I found this heat pack and eye pillow set at Home Grown Pillows. I love the swanky Amy Butler fabric. I'm going to order this right away. The wrap is sewn in three sections to keep the flaxseed and lavender distributed evenly and according to testimonials you can smell it before it is even out of the box.

One of my favorite stores is L'Occitane. Most of their products are paraben-free and organic. They carry a fabulous line of lavender products. I love using this essential oil in a diffuser with a candle when taking a bath. I will add this to my laboring toolkit as it can be applied directly on the skin....very sparingly.

I love leaving little notes in my 1st grader's lunch box. I'm sure she'd be thrilled to see her name on these adorable poppy cards from The Sweet Unfolding. Chic Summer Hair In a Flash!

If you have 5 minutes.....

This bun appears a lot more complicated than it is. It's easy if you just follow these steps.

1. Pull hair back into a low side ponytail just behind your ear and secure with an elastic.

2. Separate a 2-inch-wide section from the ponytail and braid it.

3. Pull the braid aside and wind the rest of the ponytail around its base. Anchor with hairpins.

4. Wrap the braid around the bun and pin the ends into the underside.

( I like adding a flower pin to the side of the bun to jazz it up a bit)

If you have 2 minutes....

Create a polished pony with a simple twist.

1. Create a center part that’s about 3 inches long.

2. For volume at the crown, lift that section up, spritz it with hair spray, then blast with a dryer (or, in a pinch, just tease it). Another product I love is Aveda's Pure Abundance Hair Potion. Read the directions carefully. A tiny bit goes a very long way.

3. Sweep hair into a ponytail and secure it with an elastic. (Tip: Look down when you make the ponytail so the back of your hair is smooth, not bumpy.) Take a piece of hair from the underside of the tail, wrap it around the base, and pin the end. TA-DA!!

Since we have a new baby arriving any day we'll also have out of town company in and out staying with us. I found this adorable guest book at Lisa's Handmade Boutique. There's a page for a photo and then a blank page for guests to leave a note. What a great way to remember your guests' visit! This book is intended for weddings but I think it would be perfect to keep in the guest bedroom.

I've always wanted to have my kids baby clothes and other bits of material like their crib bedding made into a quilt. I didn't know where to start with this project so the few things I have kept are stored away for a later day. Now I have a solution! I found Mountain Ash Designs. For a very reasonable $165 she will take the material you provide and turn it into a quilt!! I have no excuse now.

For some reason I have an overwhelming desire to have my life organized when the kids start school. They start in 15 days (not like I'm counting) which is just enough time to get thing in order.

There's a pocket for everything including larger pockets for a cellphone and ipod and smaller pockets for pens and lipstick. There's even a hook for your keys. I love the Amy Butler fabric but J Pat Purses will make the organizer in other prints.
